Long term Modeselektor affiliate Matti Gajek debuts for Stroom with a suite of gauzy electro-acoustic post-krautrock experiments abstractly reflecting on post GDR reunification. There's a great piece of text put together by Gajek accompanying the release, in which he poetically reflects on the sounds and experiences that guided Cutting Together Apart into being, be that echos of gabber through stolen speakers, memories of childhood adventure or the comfort of charitible acts given by his mother. Memory is the overriding concept here, and the music reflects that astutely, at times, hazy and submerged, others glithched and refracted, kinda something like Markus Popp or label mate Ben Bertrand rendered in the prismatic subversion of Hype Williams. Woozy and playful for certain, but with a clear emotional core perfectly in-tune with the Stroom sensibiility. And so another winner for a label that doesn't know how to lose.
