Cassette
So good and unexpected was Arküül's recent split 12" with Kobermann it had us digging around in his past to see what else we might have missed. We've come up roses with this 2020 cassette on Nutriot, another shared release on another Austrian imprint, this time with the also previously unknown. Pasithea contributes a pair of tracks to the A side, undulating and elegiac after hours ambience that reminds me in part of a minimal rendering of Emeralds-styled electronics. Lovely stuff, but it's Arküül who steals the show on the B, three atmos-laden, smoke-encircled pieces that are far more sedate than the other two records of his that have passed through the shop door of late. Still, there's the same sense of European elegance at its heart, turning more towards the Mille Plateaux backroom than the floor, and still very sophisticated with it. Highlight is the closer, 0481, a slow-mo Chain Reaction evolution with a little Porter Ricks subaquatic depth and some Oval like emotional resonance, pure time dilation drift. Not many of these, be swift if of interest.
