Thrilled to finally have this astonishing work by Ukrainian composer, Natalia Beylis, in the shop, a collection of Satie-like piano-based recordings first released to tape in 2020 and then brought to vinyl in late 2021 by Irish imprint, Nyahh. The confoundingly titled Love-In-A-Mist, Edible is a travelogue of sorts, as Beylis journeyed around various cities - in Holland, Morocco, Ireland - seeking out unique pianos and rooms to provide a musical document of her experiences and daily inspirations. These are astonishingly intimate and emotive expressions, speaking of space and time in a manner that feels both keenly observed and instinctive, where Beylis' playing often shares the air with the found sound of the room in which it exists or the people she has met along the way. It's akin to something like Dominique Lawalree's poignant home recordings or Roxane Metayer's quietly experimental and gently improvised debut from last year. A truly magical record that doesn't so much take you out of the world but remind you how beautiful it can be should you allow it.
