Cassette
Xpressway/Flying Nun/Siltbreeze alumni, Stella Corkery, debuts as Arrows and a quietly stunning self-released cassette of deeply-felt drone. The two long-form recordings were recorded some time apart, side one as recent as November of last year and side two originally for a lathe back in 2008. Corkery's work as both painter and drummer is abundantly evident on both pieces, the improvisations of the PK88 keyboard on the instructively titled 'Bontempi Improvisation' feeling equally impuslive and impressionistic, while the addition of sleigh-bell-like percussion to the deep swirling resonance of the synth conjures a kind of psychedelic ruralness something like a more downhome Vibracathedral Orchestra. More so, In another time ti's the kind of thing you might have seen emerge as CD-r via Antony Milton's PseudoArcana imprint or even Corpus Hermeticus, revealing of exactly what Fields is: another iteration in NZ underground folk expression. No surprise given its creators credentials.
