Two news on C/Site we picked up direct from Stefan whilst he was over for the show at the end of last month. The Furious Earth we got to see up close in a live setting, Stefan making use of the jouhikko, a traditional Finnish stringed instrument that's something like a hybridised version of a violin and guitar similar to the instrument we've seen Jon Collin wield at a few live shows. When aligned with Stefan's typically intense vocal performance, it makes for quite the cathartic experience, a strikingly earnest, emotionally wrought reckoning with the void that's part ways folk sublimation, and part drone ecstasy. High end as ever. The Bob & Lila tape is lighter in tone, but no less moving, a bucolic set of instrumentals that's got all the feel of a dusty porch at dusk, two guitars in dueling harmony that express the easy delights of friendship and understanding. Kind of Crazy Horse homestead and a true American music in its way.
