The Reds, Pinks and Purples, the alias of San Fran resident Glenn Donaldson, provide mix number eleven for World of Echo's Inner World series. Donaldson has a two-decade long, far-reaching history of producing outsider-tinged guitar-led pop and with his Reds, Pinks and Purples project has repeatedly & somewhat prolifically hit gold with a kind of indiepop classicism that, to these ears at least, stands as easily the equal to the very best of Sarah, Postcard, early Creation... With this selection of songs, you can hear clear traces of what's expressed most eloquently through Donaldson's own music: the melancholy & longing, the sharp wit, and a laughing-in-spite-of-everything earnestness. It also does that classic record shop trick of unearthing hidden diamonds and positioning them next to their more widely known kin as a means to forging new understandings... And any mix adorned with that Angst song goes straight to that top of the pile.
You Might Be Happy Someday is out now and available here.
