Inner World 016 courtesy of Monokultur, the Swedish duo who might well be the architects of what is arguably the best album of 2021 so far. Since that record is out of stock right now, i'm posting this now to mark both the shop's re-opening and the soon to arrive new record from Enhet For Fri Musik (more on that later this week - buy here).
On this mix, Monokultur dig a little into their cultural history, providing a nicely detailed exploration of Swedish prog. Their words illuminate more than mine ever could: "we decided to do things a bit different this time, skipping the regular DIY stuff we usually play. This is a mix of various Swedish "progg" musik from the 70s. In Sweden "progg" meant progressive in the political sense, so the music ranges from communist gospel to far out psych-rock jamming. I think a lot of these bands have had a significant impact on the contemporary underground Gothenburg sound. For us, it was an opportunity to dig a bit deeper too, discovering some new faves along the way. Shout-out to "retromania" that gave us a lot of inspiration for the mix. "
